Saying goodbye to a loved one who has died is never easy.

As a celebrant, I'll be with you each step of the way, taking the time to understand your loved one's life and how you, your family and their nearest and dearest felt about them. That way, each special memory can be shared with dignity, warmth, respect and, if appropriate, even humour.

I understand how important it is to create a service that celebrates and honours life with readings, reflections, poems and songs that truly resonate with you and reflect your loved one's personality.

Together, we’ll create a service that not only remembers and celebrates their life, but also provides beautiful, lasting memories for those who attend. Through empathy and understanding, we'll create and conduct a ceremony which is warm, respectful and unique to your loved one.

Every ceremony is uniquely and carefully crafted according to your wishes. There are a lot of things to think about at a time like this and it can be quite overwhelming. If you’re worried about what to include,  I can help you with warm and practical guidance.

It’s my role to help.

On the day of the ceremony, I’ll lead your service and support you, your family and friends, as you say your goodbyes. Please be assured that, during one of the most difficult times that we face, the service will be written and delivered with professionalism, respect and from the heart.

Where necessary, I’ll also liaise with your Funeral Director, and your crematorium or burial site, on your behalf to ensure the ceremony runs smoothly and you have one less thing to worry about.

The loss of a loved one is such a painful event and a funeral ceremony can help begin the process of healing. It is a time to unite with your family and friends to share your emotions, to remember the life of your loved one and to celebrate the ways they touched your lives. Please be kind to yourself at this time and remember, the choices you make will be the right choices for you and your loved one.

How do I work?

After an initial call with you or a referral from your Funeral Director, we’ll meet to discuss what you’d like to include in the service. We’ll talk about your loved one's background, family, friends, work, hobbies, personality, beliefs and touching or funny memories.

I’ll then work with you to create the words for the service until you’re happy with the content. The funeral service memories will last a lifetime. It’s very important to me that it’s right, because I know it’s important to you.

There are many options available to you:

  • A traditional cremation or burial ceremony

  • A small, family only service, followed by a memorial service a few weeks later

  • A private cremation and then a celebration of their life at a later date

Whatever type of ceremony you choose, there is always flexibility. The choice is entirely yours.

My role does not change, I am there to support and guide you throughout, and to craft and conduct the ceremony or memorial on your behalf, ensuring it is everything you wish it to be.

Whatever, your wishes are, I’ll work closely with you and the Funeral Director to make sure that you can say goodbye to your loved one in the most appropriate way.

Living Ceremonies

A Living Ceremony is not a new idea. In Japan, people have been holding them since the 1990's.

The book 'Tuesday's with Morrie' prompted people to think about why we hold funerals after someone has died, when we could, in fact, hold a ceremony whilst they are still with us. More recently, there have been high profile cases of people with terminal illnesses holding this kind of ceremony.

A Living Ceremony is for those who wish to be present at the final celebration of their life.

The Ceremony gives the individual a chance to say thank you to those who have helped and supported them over the years.

Some people use it as an opportunity to explain why they have written their Will a certain way.

Living Ceremonies are often planned by the individual, often with help and support from their family and friends. We would work together on this process to ensure that the Ceremony runs smoothly on the day.

As always, I am happy to chat about this option, and help in any way that I can.
